There's something about that magical light at sunset which captivates the soul. The way alpenglow at sunset illuminates El Capitan in the winter is pure magic, especially when the scene reflects in the Merced River at Valley View as snow blankets Yosemite Valley. The granite cliffs of one of nature's holiest cathedrals transform into a beautiful shade of orange as the setting sun catches the clouds above in the east, resulting in pastel colors in the skies above. It's as if sunset is whispering at you to relax and take in this serene beauty.
Witnessing the snow hugging the top of Cathedral Rocks and El Capitan as snow lines Yosemite Valley and Bridalveil Meadow is the icing on the cake, especially when the scene creates a reflection in the waters of the Merced River. It's a scene which always seems to calm my soul, and it's a beauty which seems as if we've been granted a brief window into heaven. John Muir once said "in every walk in nature, one receives far more than they seek." That's the way I feel every time I visit this wondrous place. Yosemite is absolutely stunning, with unique beauty in every direction.
Whatever is happening in life, it always seems to melt away when you're in this magical place. Time slows down watching the grandeur of nature unfold in front of you, and it always feels as if you've been granted a window into heaven as it opens its gates to bestow its full glory upon you when the sunset whispers at you to slow down and watch that magic alpenglow unfold in front of your eyes. The magic of sunset in a place like Yosemite is pure bliss, and patience is always rewarded with stunning sights which live on forever in your mind long after the day draws to a close.
