Wrath of Winter - Winter Storm over Snow Covered Yaki Point and the Grand Canyon
Yaki Point, Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona
Winter Storm over the Grand Canyon and Snow Covered Yaki Point on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park
Snow covers Yaki Point and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon as a winter storm begins to pound Point Sublime on the North Rim 13.7 miles across the canyon in the distance. Storm clouds darken the skies overhead while snow blankets the ground and trees on the South Rim, as the colors of sunrise try in vain to break through the clouds above, only peeking through in a few spots.
This luxury limited-edition museum-grade print captures a winter storm over snow covered Yaki Point and the Grand Canyon as the winter storm pounded Point Sublime and the North Rim. It is part of James Mead's fine art documentation of Grand Canyon National Park and the South Rim, and is available as a limited edition luxury museum-grade fine art print by James Mead.
Serenity and Fury: Winter at Yaki Point and the Grand Canyon
Standing at the edge of the snow covered South Rim of the Grand Canyon as a winter storm hammers Point Sublime 13.7 miles across the canyon is a sight I'll never forget. The dark and foreboding clouds were a stark contrast to the peaceful snow covered landscape which lay before me. Looking out into the depths of the canyon, the layers of the inner canyon grew covered in dark shadows as I looked across, a sign of the storm miles and miles away on the North Rim.
The North Rim averages 142" of snow per year, a stark contrast to the 58" per year the South Rim receives on average. Looking out across the rim, it was easy to see why the North Rim receives almost 84 more inches of snow per year on average. The storm came down on the North Rim with fury, yet it hardly glanced the South Rim 13.5 miles away and 1000 feet lower in elevation. The South Rim lay covered in a beautiful, serene blanket of snow as the North Rim dealt with the wrath of winter. As the storm came down far in the distance, I couldn't help but stand there and marvel at the mixing of two different kinds of beauty, coming together in the most unique of ways.
