Alpenglow, a Lenticular Cloud, and Sunset: The Ethereal Magic of Mount Hood and Trillium Lake
Mount Hood and Trillium Lake has long been one of my favorite spots. I grew up about an hour from here and I still live about an hour from here, so I've spent most of my life coming here. Being from northern Oregon, Mount Hood was one of my first loves, and it's stayed that way most of my life.
Trillium in particular has long been a favorite of mine. The water often gets calm here, turning into a mirror, which reflects Mount Hood and the skies above. It's nature at its finest, a peaceful moment where it's easy to just stand and reflect as the alpenglow and the mountain reflect in the water like a portal to a perfect place.
My favorite sunsets here have always been ones with clouds, as they often catch the sunset and bounce the light back and forth between the cloud cover and the water of Trillium Lake. The way the clouds catch the colors is a thing of beauty, and the variety of beautiful colors they create in the sky at sunset is truly a moment of pure bliss, where you're not sure if you're in the Cascade Range of the mountains of heaven.
Alpenglow often catches the clouds at sunset and the colors can last past dusk. When a lenticular cloud caps the peak of Mount Hood at sunset its pure magic, especially when the lenticular cloud lights up with gorgeous pastel magenta alpenglow colors. I've always been amazed at how different this spot can look depending on when you visit, and perhaps that's long been one of my favorite things about it. No matter how many times you visit, you always come away with different scenes and experiences every time.
