Sunset bathes skies above in brilliant pastel magenta light as true indirect alpenglow illuminates Half Dome and the Yosemite High Country near Olmstead Point in of Yosemite National Park. The face of Half Dome lights up with gold and magenta hues, as the Sub Dome of the giant granite monolith lights up and the granite slopes below it illuminate with vivid magenta alpenglow. Trees just below the Sub Dome illuminate with red and magenta hues as the full glory of sunset roars to life.
Magenta lights the haze enveloping the distant ridges of the Yosemite High Country behind Half Dome, as orange and yellow light bathes the sky below the vivid magenta clouds above blanketing the skies above. It was a true moment of harmony, serenity, and tranquility all coming together to create on one of the most vivid sunsets I've ever witnessed on one of Yosemite's grandest crown jewels.

The Magic of Alpenglow on Half Dome at Sunset: An Evening to Remember
This was a true moment of tranquility where time seems to stand still, and it was one I'll never forget. I had to desaturate the sky it was so vivid, something that is incredibly rare to have to do. It was absolutely amazing to witness, and it was easily one of the most vivid sunsets I've ever laid eyes on. The colors seemingly hung on forever, lasting well past dusk as the light of day slowly faded out in a blaze of glory. It was true indirect alpenglow at its finest. From before Sunset until past dusk, the indirect alpenglow illuminated Half Dome while the wondrous sunset colors reflected off the cloud cover in the sky.
I've always been a big fan of cloud cover, as many of the most vivid sunsets I've ever witnessed are when the clouds are the perfect thickness to let the light through, yet thick enough it traps the light beneath the layer of clouds. The clouds light up, and the air in front of you seemingly glows with magnificent magenta hues. The colors illuminating Half Dome this evening were sublime, and the haze on the mountain ridges in the distance caught that beautiful magenta color and lit up like a Christmas tree. It really tied the scene together, creating a wonderful depth of color throughout the scene from front to back.
Tranquil moments like this are why I walked away from my career decades ago and went into landscape photography full-time with looking back. When you witness beauty like this it feels like you're in a thin place which blurs the lines between Heaven and Earth. Everything comes together in perfect harmony as nature puts on a perfect show, unfolding its full grandeur in front of you in slow motion.
Moments like this are a pure moment of tranquility, and they provide memories which imprint into your mind forever. I've seen a lot of beautiful things over the course of my career and created a lot of magical memories, and as the last light of sunset valiantly hung on in the sky, all I could think to myself was my what an amazing memory this was.
