A squall Line forms over Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe as storm clouds bring thunderstorms and heavy rain to South Lake Tahoe as it sits under a flood watch. Dark, ominous clouds line the skies overhead as rain can be seen pelting South Lake Tahoe and the area behind the ridge rising up from Eagle Point. Golden hues light the thin parts of the clouds and blanket the horizon across the lake, illuminating the rain gold as it drops from the thunderstorm clouds above down onto East Peak and Monument Peak.
Fannette Island rises out of the emerald colored water of Emerald Bay as Jeffrey Pine, Sugar Pine and White Fir trees encircle the shoreline. The large scar from the December 25, 1955 Christmas Day landslide still covers the slopes above Emerald Bay, showcasing the power of storms in nature as the scar remains visible over 70 years later. Duane Bliss Peak, South Camp Peak, Genoa Peak and the Carson Range sub-range of the Sierra Nevada rise up across Lake Tahoe towards the beautiful sunset colors lining the horizon above the peaks.
Thunderstorms are capable of producing dramatic weather with a beautiful palette of colors and this one didn't disappoint. It's a rare moment of perfection where the sheer power of nature comes together in perfect harmony with its colorful side, creating a magnificent display of shadows and light set against Lake Tahoe and the emerald colored waters of Emerald Bay as lush green forest surrounds the water.
