Storm clouds at sunset line the skies over Emerald Bay, Fannette Island, Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada in California near Emerald Bay State Park. Orange and yellow sunset colors illuminate the clouds on the horizon above Snow Valley Peak, Duane Bliss Peak, Genoa Peak and the Carson Range sub-range of the Sierra Nevada across the water on the eastern shores of Lake Tahoe. The light of sunset on the horizon transitions to darkness as the storm clouds overtake the skies above, dropping rain over South Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area.
I've always loved how different conditions can dramatically change the look of the same scene. This view looking straight on into Emerald Bay can change dramatically with the weather. The skies in this photo are different than the magenta sunset in my photo Destiny's Exit, though both are equally beautiful in their own right. I've always been a firm believer in taking what nature give's you in a scene, and the conditions this evening at sunset was a fantastic contrast of darkness and light that I'll always look back fondly on.
