Rise Up - Sunrise Alpenglow and the Belt of Venus over Mount Hood and the Columbia Plateau

Mount Hood, Columbia Plateau, Wasco County, Oregon

Alpenglow and the Belt of Venus over Mount Hood and the Columbia Plateau at Sunrise in Wasco County, Oregon

Alpenglow bathes the slopes of Mount Hood just before sunrise as the soft pastel hues of the Belt of Venus illuminate the skies above the mountain and the fields of the Columbia Plateau in Wasco County. Pulpit Rock rises on Mount Hood’s northern face as Cooper Spur juts out from the northeast face and Barrett Spur juts out northward below. Clouds blanket Marion Point, Eightmile Point, Perry Point, and Fivemile Butte as Lamberson Butte rises up just above the sea of clouds covering the eastern foothills while Mount Hood reaches 11,249 feet into the heavens above.

The Newton Clark Glacier dominates the eastern face of Mount Hood, as the Eliot Glacier, Langille Glacier and Coe Glacier blanket the snow covered slopes of Mount Hood as they all illuminate with vibrant shades of magenta and red alpenglow. Dry fields with sagebrush mix with green fields in the distance, creating a beautiful color palette as sunrise greets the new day.

This luxury limited-edition museum-grade print captures alpenglow at sunrise on Mount Hood as it rises above the Columbia Plateau and a sea of clouds covering the eastern foothills. It is part of James Mead's fine art documentation of Mount Hood, Wasco County, Columbia Plateau, and the Cascade Range, and is available as a limited edition luxury museum-grade fine art print by James Mead.

The Grandeur of Alpenglow on Mount Hood and the Belt of Venus at Sunrise

I've always loved the view of Mount Hood from the Columbia Plateau in Wasco County. Mount Hood rises majestically above the rolling fields here, and at sunrise the eastern face of the mountain glows with alpenglow as the Belt of Venus paints the sky a stunning shade of magenta as the blue from the Earth's shadow clings to the horizon. The view from the high point on the ridge here is stunning, as the landscape and fields roll downward towards the valley below before rising back up into the rolling eastern foothills of Mount Hood. The mountain rises above it all, glowing in all its majesty as it rises up into the sky.

It's a serene and peaceful sight, and it's especially stunning when low clouds hug the foothills as Mount Hood and the crest of the foothills rises above it all. A few wispy clouds covered the slopes of Mount Hood, as the snow capped mountain rose above the sea of clouds in all its grandeur. It's a moment of pure bliss, and sunrises like these always seem to make time stand still.

The color palette this morning was wonderful. It was beautiful to see the brown wheat fields filled with sagebrush roll down towards the lush fields of green and the dark green forests of the foothills. There landscape around Dufur and Tygh Valley is absolutely stunning, and there's nothing quite like witnessing Mount Hood rise up above the rolling beauty of the Wasco County bathed in glorious sunrise alpenglow light.

It's always peaceful up here. High up on the ridge as the colors of sunrise blanket the sky in majestic light, it feels as if you're in a time warp, transported to a simpler time when open landscapes and rolling fields reigned supreme. A vivid sunrise over the rolling fields as alpenglow and the Belt of Venus paint the queen of Oregon in magnificent light is always a tranquil way to start the day, and for those brief few moments all seems perfect as Mount Hood glows under the magenta sky, showing the beauty of nature in all its grandeur.
