A vibrant green display of diffuse aurora blankets the night sky above Devils Backbone and the western caldera rim during the legendary June 2015 G4 geomagnetic storm at Crater Lake National Park. The Milky Way rises over Crater Lake and Wizard Island as intense diffuse aurora illuminates the dark night skies above. The green diffuse aurora reflects off the waters of Crater Lake, creating a green mirror in the water as Wizard Island, the Milky Way and the stars in the night sky reflect off the water as well.
The brilliant structural core of the Milky Way galaxy rises with immense detail above the deep caldera waters, cutting directly through the glowing green auroral light.
