Golden Memories of the Boardman Tree Farm
Fall colors at the Boardman Tree Farm were always one my favorite sights in my home state of Oregon. Seeing the evenly space rows of Pacific Albus Hybrid Poplar trees spanned 25,000 acres light up with the colors of fall was a wondrous experience unique to Oregon. When golden, evening light caught the leaves and trunks of the trees and filtered through the canopy, it created a truly magical experience straight out of a fairy tale.
Seeing that magnificent light filter through the colors of fall, stretching as far as the eye can see was an experience I looked forward to each and every autumn. It's one of those scenes that lets the imagination run wild, as you get lost among the enchantment of the beauty and grandeur unfolding before you. It was easily one of Oregon's most famous fall scenes, and rightfully so: nothing else on Earth quite matched its unique beauty.
Some things unfortunately aren't forever, and sadly this sight is no more: GreenWood Resources (also known as Greenwood Tree Farms) sold the Boardman Tree Farm to a pair of agricultural companies. The trees have all been harvested without re-planting, erasing this once 25,000 acre Poplar forest from existence. The land is now used for agriculture crops. Now, the only way to peer into this man made forest is through historical photographs like this one. Photography allows us to preserve a moment in time forever, and scenes like this are a perfect reminder of why that's so important.

Historical Note
This image preserves a now historical landscape that no longer exists; the Boardman Tree Farm was sold by GreenWood Resources in January 2016 to Willow Creek Dairy (1/3 of the acreage) and AgriNorthwest (the remaining 2/3). The Willow Creek (Lost Valley Ranch) Dairy was closed within 2 years, and its permit revoked by the State of Oregon due to violating the terms of their wastewater discharge permit (nitrate contamination). Now, the land is 100% cropland used by AgriNorthwest out of the Tri-Cities. This image represents a rare documentation of a landscape that no longer exists (and will never exist again), due to ownership and land use changes.

Captured using the single exposure workflow of the "Mead Method," developed over 15 years of fine art landscape experience. This image preserves a genuine, single moment in time executed entirely in the field without the use of composites, sky swaps, or generative AI. Just a single moment in time, preserved.
