My Father always told me "If Heaven's not like Jackson Hole, I don't want to go." I grew about hearing about the immense beauty of Grand Teton National Park, the Snake River and Jackson Hole, Wyoming. My Dad fell in love with this place long before I was born, and that love was passed on to me at a very early age. The Teton Range has a dramatic elevation profile, as it rises sharply from the floor of Jackson Hole Valley up 7,000 feet into the air at a steep incline.
Unlike many mountain ranges, the Teton Range lacks any foothills or lower peaks on the east side. From Jackson Hole Valley, you are looking straight up from the base of the range to the summit, which creates the unique look this magical place is known for. The tallest peak in the range, Grand Teton, tops out at 13,775 feet though every peak in the famed Cathedral Group (Grand Teton, Mount Owen, Teewinot Mountain, Middle Teton and South Teton) is over 12,500 feet tall.
The Snake River twists and turns as it winds its way through the valley, and although the view of the famed curves at Snake River Overlook is now obscured, places like Oxbow Bend and Schwabacher's Landing still provide stunning views of river with the Teton Range as stunning backdrop. In some places, beaver dams slow the waters to a crawl, creating a mirror on the river which reflects the peaks and the skies above.
Other places, like the famed Mormon Row, feature pioneer structures such as the TA Moulton Barn and John Moulton Barn (which still has its original horse coral intact). These barns are among the most photographed in the world, and it’s easy to see why. The mix of scenery coming together here is surreal, feeling like a time warp into a simpler time back when nature’s beauty reigned supreme.
I’ve spent a lot of time in this place over the course of my life, and it’s always been easy to see why my father felt that way about Jackson Hole Valley and Grand Teton National Park. It’s a place almost too perfect for this world. It's a place filled with peace and serenity that calms the soul and leaves us feeling refreshed and renewed. These are the feelings I hope others feel when viewing the photography in my Grand Teton Fine Art Landscape Photography gallery.
After spending a lifetime witnessing the beauty of this Grand Teton National Park, it’s easy to see why Jackson Hole always brought my father feelings of wonder and awe. The photography in this Gallery is dedicated to him.
Rest in Peace Dad. Your Heaven is beautiful.
