Low tide in the Pacific Ocean leaves the sand with a wet reflection far out past Hug Point and Adair Point along the Rugged Oregon Coast. Clouds cover the night sky as light pollution creates a warm sunset like glow on the clouds.

This photo was taken in the middle of the night, a little after 2AM. I went far out past the headlands at low tide, and a friend kept an eye on the ocean while I set up for the composition. The "sunlight" you see is actually light pollution from a town down the coastline. It reflects off the clouds at night, giving it the look of a sunset/sunrise reflecting off the wet sand. I often try to work with what I'm given photography wise, and under the right circumstances even light pollution combined with nature can yield some amazing sights. I love how so many things most people will never see or notice in nature come together in this photo. The extreme low tide allowed me to go out much further than normal, and the clouds at night served as the perfect backdrop to capture the light pollution and make it look like a stunning sunset or sunrise just behind the headlands. The way it all reflects off the wet sand at the tide line is simply magical. Perhaps my favorite part of this photo is the lone set of footprints leading down the beach. Every time I look at this photo, I think of that poem Footprints (in the sand). I looked at this image quite often while I spent those 3 weeks in the hospital with acute kidney failure (which I have since 100% recovered from). It was a comforting memory and a comforting sight, and it's beauty certainly helped me through that tough time. It's one of those magical scenes where everything came together so perfectly, and everything else just melts away when I look at the picture, close my eyes and go back to that moment. It's definitely one of those experiences I'll never forget.
