The last bit of alpenglow light hangs on along the horizon above Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, and the Sierra Nevada as the darkness of night begins to set in at the beginning of astronomical twilight. The sun reaches -13.1 degrees below the horizon as astronomical twilight begins to overtake the skies, while the stars in the transitioning sky announce the arrival incoming arrival of night.
Blackwood Ridge, Twin Peaks, Ward Peak, Mount Watson, Mount Pluto and the rest of the Sierra Nevada rise up above the water. Bonsai Rock reflects in the turquoise water of Lake Tahoe near the shore as rocks along the lakebed show through the crystal clear water. Large granite boulders rise up from Lake Tahoe around Bonsai Rock, as the last bit of the fading alpenglow colors reflect in the water across the lake.

Technical Note
Achieving a balance Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada and the alpenglow colors during astronomical twilight required precise LLL (Low Level Lighting). By utilizing a single-exposure workflow and carefully tuned Low Level Lighting, I’ve ensured the relationship between Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe and the sky remains authentic to the moment and properly balanced.
A high-resolution panoramic stitch [5:4 aspect ratio] of 3 single exposure images all taken at the exact same settings using a nodal rail and L-bracket on a 3-way pan and tilt panoramic head for nodal point accuracy, ensuring the final image preserves museum-grade detail and resolution across the entire frame, from the details of Lake Tahoe and Bonsai Rock to the colors in the sky above.

This panoramic image was created using Single Exposures. Captured using the "Mead Method" developed over 15 years of nightscape experience. No trackers, no sky-swaps, and no generative AI. Just a single moment in time, preserved as a panoramic image.
