Long after sunset, alpenglow illuminates North Dome and the skies above with soft pastel hues while the last few leaves of late fall cling to the trees. The scene reflects in the clear, calm waters of the Merced River in Yosemite Valley.
There's something about those late autumn evenings which I've always captivated me, especially in a place like Yosemite National Park. The last Light from the setting Sun cast a warm glow on North Dome, as the entire scene reflects in the perfectly still waters of the Merced River. Most of the trees stand bare, ready for winter as the last few leaves hang on, providing a small glimpse of autumn one last time. Those cold, late Autumn evenings often take on some beautiful colors at sunset. The cold sky often has less haze, and it can result in some absolutely gorgeous pastel and magenta colors as the sun in south west sky reflects off the particles high in the atmosphere. It's a otherworldly mix of scenery and colors which transforms this already beautiful place into something seemingly straight out of Heaven. It's a true moment of peace and serenity, nature at its finest. It's easy to see why nature is so calming to so many people when you're in a place like this, witnessing a scene like this. Life often comes at us fast, and in places like this that all slows down and time seems to stand still. Perhaps that's the greatest gift nature can give us, its ability to slow things down and let us simply enjoy the moment. I could have sat on the shore here and staring out at this beautiful scene forever, and when I close my eyes I can still take myself back here.
