Winter snow covers the slopes and the tops of a ridge over 3300 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor as sunset bathes the granite cliffs high above in a warm glow.
There's always been something about the edges of the cliffs 3000 feet high above the valley floor that captivates me. There are so many wonderful formations and sights that are easily missed if you don't look closely. The way the cliffs look here, with golden sunlight illuminating the cliff face as snow lines the cliffs and the top reminded me of a Queen's golden crown with jewels lining the top of it. It's a sight so very fitting for a place filled with such regal beauty. Huge amounts of snow cover the tops the cliffs, yet it's regulated to a seemingly insignificant look against the 3300 foot high granite walls illuminated gold. The contrast the snow creates at the very top and on the slopes is a beautiful contrast against the golden glow on the cliffs from the setting sun. Yosemite is full of grand, sweeping views, but sometimes it's the small, easily overlooked scenes that are the most magical.
