There's always something which captivates me about the Aurora Borealis making an appear in places where it's not usually expected. It adds a unique sense of wonder, combining beauty which is not normally seen together into one glorious moment. Yellowstone National Park is definitely one of those places where the Auroras are not expected, which is what made this night all the more special. It takes an especially strong geomagnetic storm to produce Auroras this far south (G2/G3 class storms). When it does, it's as if the gates of heaven have opened up showing us a wonderous beauty we are normally unable to experience. Seeing the Auroras dance in the sky as the colors reflected off the Firehole River and the steam from the sprouting geysers of Midway Geyser Basin was a wonderous sight to behold. The colors were so intense, it almost washed out the dancing pillars, which faintly remain visible here. It was one of those nights that will stick with me forever. It was a display of full on night splendor, as colors from heaven mixed with one of the most unique landscapes on earth to produce a stunning sight I'll never forget.
