The Milky Way Arch rises over Half Dome, Clouds Rest, Vernal Fall, Nevada Fall, Tenaya Canyon, Mount Starr King and the rest of the Yosemite High Country as clouds envelop Liberty Cap, North Dome, and Basket Dome.
There's something about those grand, sweeping views of the Yosemite High Country that's always captivated me. The way the peaks and formations seemingly roll forever, stretching to infinity is always magnificent to see. I absolutely love on this night how clouds envelope Basket Dome and North Dome, with The Falls peeking through some low-lying clouds. Half Dome itself is rising up from low-lying clouds, as The Milky Way Arch rises into the night sky above everything. The beautiful air glow is the icing on the cake. Scenes like this are always surreal, almost too perfect for this world. Yosemite is one of those thin places, a place that seems to blur the lines between Heaven and Earth. Looking out from this viewpoint, it's easy to see why. Everything just makes sense when you stare out at something like this. The magnificence of a view like this always seems to wash away whatever is wrong and leave you with a feeling of peace and serenity. One of the things I have always loved about photography, has always been its ability to free the moment in time. Especially scenes like this, where are eyes are incapable of seeing what's truly there due to the way they work. Perhaps that's my favorite thing about photography, how the camera allows us to see glimpses into what always feels another world.
