Into the Forest - Boardman Tree Farm Fall Colors in the Autumn, Boardman, Oregon
Boardman Tree Farm, Boardman, Oregon
Fall Colors on the Pacific Albus Poplar trees of the Boardman Tree Farm in the Autumn, Morrow County, Oregon
Autumn (fall) colors create even rows of fall foliage in the Pacific Albus Hybrid Poplar Tree Forest of the Boardman Tree farm in Boardman, Oregon. These trees stood equally spaced and of uniform height. It was quite a sight to see. Standing at the edge of this evenly spaced forest, perfectly spaced rows of poplars had symmetrical paths between them which went on for 25,000 acres.
Forgotten Shades of Autumn: Fall Colors in the Boardman Tree Farm
This used to be my favorite sight every fall. The Pacific Albus Poplar trees which used to form a forest on the Boardman Tree farm in Boardman, Oregon stood perfectly spaced and of equal height. It was quite a sight to see with literally endless symmetrical rows of autumn beauty. Standing at the edge of this evenly spaced forest, perfectly aligned rows of poplars had even paths between them which went on for acres. Wildlife found home in the trees, and if you were lucky you might see deer or something else. When the warm light of the golden hour approached, the leaves, bark, and ground below began to illuminate with a warm golden glow. The 25,000 acres of these trees was always a favorite sight when fall colors made an appearance, preserved now only through the wonders of photography. That's always been my favorite part of photography: its ability to freeze a moment in time forever, as it's done here. This forest may be gone, but I can still see myself standing at the edge, feeling that cool breeze brushing against my face as I gaze into its unique autumn beauty, now preserved through photography.
As for what became of this place: Greenwood Tree Farms sold the Boardman Tree Farm to a pair of agricultural companies. The trees have all been harvested without re-planting, erasing this once 25,000 acre Poplar forest from existence. The land is now used for agriculture crops. Now, the only way to peer into this man made forest is through photographs like this one, which preserve the beauty of fleeting moments in time forever.

Historical Note
This image preserves a now historical landscape that no longer exists; the Boardman Tree Farm was sold by GreenWood Resources in January 2016 to Willow Creek Dairy (1/3 of the acreage) and AgriNorthwest (the remaining 2/3). The Willow Creek (Lost Valley Ranch) Dairy was closed within 2 years, and its permit revoked by the State of Oregon due to violating the terms of their wastewater discharge permit (nitrate contamination). Now, the land is 100% cropland used by AgriNorthwest out of the Tri-Cities. This image represents a rare documentation of a landscape that no longer exists (and will never exist again), due to ownership and land use changes.
Note on Provenance
Captured using the single exposure workflow of the "Mead Method," developed over 15 years of fine art landscape experience. This image preserves a genuine, single moment in time executed entirely in the field without the use of composites, sky swaps, or generative AI. Just a single moment in time, preserved.
