The icicles hanging off the cliffs are what caught my eye with this scene. It was bitterly cold, dropping down to around 12°F once nightfall arrived, and the snow blanketing the tops of the cliff as the icicles hung off it was quite a sight. I loved the way it all came together, as beautiful mix of granite, snow, and icicles hanging as trees and bushes topped the granite cliffs above. The blanket of stars in the moonlit sky above was the icing on the cake, pulling it all together. Your mind could almost feel the cold through all the winter layers. It was vintage winter in all its glory, on full display in a manner only nature can provide.
There's something about winter that has always captivated me, and perhaps no place pulls the beauty of winter together like Yosemite. It's such a grand sight, but the intimate winter scenes here in Yosemite have always been some of my favorite. It's easy to get lost in the grandeur of the vistas and sweeping views here, but the snow lined cliffs with frozen icicles have always had a charm all to their own. Yosemite is a wonderous mix of magic and light, and there's nothing quite like seeing it all pull together in a magnificent sight like this. Smaller scenes like this are easy to miss, but when you slow down and take in everything around you, they're often the ones you'll remember. Perhaps that's why they'll always be some of my favorite.
