Bigleaf Maple trees in the Columbia River Gorge turn yellow and gold with fall colors in Rooster Rock State Park near the Columbia River as soft pastel colors at sunset light the clouds in the sky visible through the trees. Bigleaf Maple trees thrive in the river valleys and forests of Oregon, earning them the nickname Oregon Maple. Their 12 inch across leaves are the largest of any species of Maple tree. Their fall foliage comes to life with golden fall colors across groves of Bigleaf Maple trees, creating a stunning canopy of amber above.
They are found in abundance in the western section of the Columbia River Gorge, and witnessing their magical transition of a golden canopy of fall color has always been one of my favorite sights here. I have spent over 4 decades visiting the Columbia River Gorge, originally visiting it with my Mom and Dad as a child before visiting it for decades with my now wife. Today, I still visit this magical place with my wife and son, and witnessing the autumn beauty in the Gorge is always one of our favorite sights in my beloved home State of Oregon.

Note on Provenance
This photo uses 3 manually bracketed images to overcome the extreme dynamic range between the shadows in the foreground and the highlights in the sky. It is natural to the scene as it was taken. Exposures were taken back to back, one immediately after the other. As always, no generative AI is ever used in my work.
