The colors of the Grand Canyon spring to life above the Colorado River and the beautiful Desert View of Grand Canyon National Park. The Colorado River has cut 6,000 feet deep through the sandstone and other sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks of the Grand Canyon over the course of more than 6 million years, leaving in its wake a wonder of geologic formations stretching into the depths of the Canyon far below the rim.
Cardenas Butte rises out from the inner canyon as Apollo Temple, Venus Temple, Jupiter Temple and Juno Temple rise up behind it below Cape Final 8.19 miles across the Canyon in the distance as Naji Point juts out from the North Rim over 10 miles away. Siegfried Pyre rises up 11.48 miles away, as Saddle Mountain and Boundary Ridge rise up 19.76 miles in the distance.
The brown waters of the Colorado River flow through Lava Canyon and Tanner Canyon as Chuar Butte rises above the river. Basalt Creek flows into the Colorado River just below Ochoa Point, as the Palisades of the Desert stretches for 7 miles along the East Rim, past Comanche Point towards Cape Solitude. It's a stunning view of one of nature’s grandest marvels, and seeing the magical colors of sunset against this ancient landscape is always a sight to behold.

Technical Note
A high-resolution panoramic stitch [2:3 aspect ratio] of 5 single vertical exposure images panned horizontally using a nodal rail and L-bracket on a 3-way pan and tilt panoramic head for nodal point accuracy, ensuring the final photo preserves museum-grade detail and resolution across the entire frame, from the textures of the Grand Canyon to the to the colors of sunset in the sky.
Note on Provenance
Captured using the single exposure panoramic workflow of the "Mead Method," developed over 15 years of fine art landscape experience. This image preserves a genuine, single moment in time executed entirely in the field without the use of composites, sky swaps, or generative AI. Just a single moment in time, preserved.
Artist's Note
I took this photo in November 2016, 6 months after getting Lyme Disease, Bartonella and Babesia. I could barely function. Two days later I would have my first appointment with a specialist about it all, but I wasn't about to wait until then (or longer) to come back and see this magnificent place. Sometimes determination and grit get the better of you. That's the kind of inspiration the Grand Canyon brings to people.
