Mount Saint Helens
On May 18th, 1980 erupted, spewing tons of ash into the air and forever transforming the surrounding landscape. The Mount Saint Helens eruption former changed the once perfect shape. Now featuring a prominent blast crater surrounded by a surprising resilient landscape, Mount St Helens is still home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Cascade Range. Reminders of the eruption which forever changed the mountain and the landscape are everywhere: log jams now fill the waters of once pristine Spirit Lake, while the Johnston Ridge Observatory provides an amazingly close up view into the blast crater. Sunset and Sunrise bring an array of colors to the skies above as Alpenglow softly kisses the slopes of the volcano. Once the sun dips below the horizon, the stars come out and stunning views of the Milky Way become visible.
