Beartooth Mountains
The Beartooth Mountains are a high elevation alpine landscape filled with alpine lakes, high elevation plateaus, alpine tundra and high mountain peaks. The vast plateaus, alpine lakes, and high peaks of the Beartooth Mountains stretch across the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness, three national forests (the Custer National Forests, Shoshone National Forests and Gallatin National Forests), and two states (Montana and Wyoming). Many forms of wildlife call the Beartooth Mountains home, including the Grizzly Bear. The Beartooth Mountains are also home to the famous Beartooth Highway (U.S 212), which reaches an elevation of 10,947 feet at Beartooth Pass.
